HISTORY & WILDLIFE

Reed-Keppler is a 118.04-acre park. 38.01 acres were acquired by the Park District from 1989-2009 and the additional 80 acres are owned by the City of West Chicago and have been leased by the West Chicago Park District since 1995.

Reed-Keppler Park features the ARC Center, ZONE250, Turtle Splash Water Park, the Shell, a concession stand, four pavilions, six baseball fields, soccer fields, two dog parks, walking paths, a skate park, a solar field, and various playgrounds/climbing structures. Additionally, walking through the park you will find a butterfly garden, a 9/11 memorial, a refurbished train car, and carved trees. The carved trees throughout Reed-Keppler, created by a local artist, portray the heart of the park after dozens of trees were destroyed during the 2012 storm.

West of the park is the Dyer Nature Sanctuary. The freshwater emergent wetland area within the park features Panicled Aster, grass-leaved goldenrods, and Virginia wild rye. Other wildlife throughout the park includes green snakes, blanching turtles, coyotes, and owls.
