COVID-19 & The Effect On Your Park District

The health, safety, and well-being of our patrons and families is our priority.  Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.

We understand you may have questions during these unexpected times, that's why staff is continuously working on a contingency plan to address the effects on programs, rentals and memberships.

See below for answers to our most frequently asked questions, they are listed as facilities, memberships, programs and events.  As information develops, most recent updates will appear at the top of section.

Facilities (ARC Center, Turtle Splash Water Park, ZONE 250, Indoor Rentals & Birthday Parties)

Which facilities are closed and for how long?
  • We have a tentative opening of the ARC Center on July 1st; however, this information is subject to change depending on state mandates.

  • The West Chicago Park District continues to be proactive during these uncertain times and has made the decision for Turtle Splash Water Park, ZONE250, and The Treehouse playground structure to remain closed through the summer.  

Will my rental still take place?
  • At this time, all birthday parties, room rentals, and gym rentals are being pushed back until after July 1st.

  • Any rentals originally scheduled prior to this date have the option to reschedule (subject to availability), if unavailable a full refund will be issued. 

  • As information evolves, renters will be contacted for additional date changes if needed. 

  • Any rental taking place from June-August who have reserved the Treehouse will have the option to reschedule (subject to availability), move to a gym court/MAC gym, or cancel your rental/be refunded in full.

Will Treehouse Stay & Play and Drop & Go be available this summer?
  • Due to the closing of The Treehouse playground structure, Stay & Play will be canceled through the summer. 

  • Drop & Go will be offered for members only beginning July 1. (subject to state mandates)

  • Drop & Go will not utilize the Treehouse structure and will be held elsewhere in the ARC.

Have you had any reports of the virus in the facilities?
  • No, we have not had any reports of our patrons having the virus; however, there have been several reported cases of people infected in DuPage County.


What steps are you taking to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus?
  • Our facilities were closed for a full 3 weeks to eliminate the risk of the virus in facilities. During the closing, our contracted janitorial service has thoroughly deep clean every surface, entryway, control panel, desk, structure, and equipment to eradicate any possible contagion. Our facilities will also remain closed throughout the Stay at Home order.

Parks & Field Rentals

Are your parks open?

  • Parks remain open to the public, but for the safety and well-being of all, please observe recommended social distancing when visiting parks.

  • All playgrounds, skate parks, and dog parks are closed until further notice.

Can I rent a Pavilion?
  • Park Pavilions are closed through May 30th. Tentative booking dates will begin in June.


Will my field rental still take place?
  • At this time, all field rentals are being pushed back until after July 1st. Any rental originally scheduled prior to this date have the option to reschedule (subject to availability), if unavailable a full refund will be issued. 

  • As information evolves, renters will be contacted for additional date changes if needed. 

Will the Splash Pad at Pioneer Park be open this summer?
  • The Splash Pad will remain closed until further notice.

Memberships

What happens to my Fitness/Treehouse membership when the facility is closed?
  • With July 1st a tentative open date for members, EFT Members will not be charged for the months of April, May and June, July will be cut in half. 

  • Pay-in-Full Annual Members will have their membership expirations extended for 105 days.  

  • Single Month passes which expired during the closure will be extended.

 

Will we get reimbursed for canceled classes?
  • Yes, remaining fees for canceled classes will be refunded the same way they were paid for at the initial time of the transaction.

What happens to my unlimited fitness pass?
  • With July 1 as a tentative start-up day for fitness classes, EFT Members will not be charged for months of April, May and June. July’s EFT will be cut in half.

What happens if I already purchased my Splash Pass?
  • Splash Pass members have the option to extend their pass through Summer 2021 to lock in their rate.

  • Refunds will be processed by April 30th for all Splash Passes unless you choose to extend you pass through the 2021 season.

Will I still be able to register for classes while the facilities are closed?
  • Yes, you may visit we-goparks.org to register for classes online.

Treehouse- Will I receive a refund for the days you are closed?​
  • With June 15th as a tentative open date for Drop & Go for members, EFT Members will not be charged for the months of April, May and June. July’s EFT will be cut in half.

  • Pay-in-Full Annual Members will have their membership expirations extended for 105 days.  

  • Single Month passes which expired during the closure will be extended.

  • The Treehouse playground structure will remain closed through the summer. 

  • Check back for updates regarding Drop & Go services for when the ARC Center reopens.

Programs

 

General

Where is my Summer Program Guide?
  • The Summer Program Guide will not be mailed to residents this season as the information within the guide may be inaccurate or out of date. 

  • We recommend viewing the virtual program guide which will launch digitally on May 1st and will be updated as information becomes available. 

Are you running any specialty youth programs this summer?
  • The West Chicago Park District is being proactive during this pandemic and will not be offering specialty youth programs this summer. 

  • Classes are expected to resume in the fall season. 

Aquatic Programs

Will I be refunded for swim lessons and Aqua Zumba?
  • Yes, prorated refunds will be issued for canceled classes.

Before and Aftercare Care Program

Will I be refunded for school days not in session?
  • Yes, refunds will be issued for the days school was not in session. 

Will I still be billed for April and May?
  • April and May EFTS will not be billed since school will not be in session.

Baseball and Youth Athletic Programs

Will there be a baseball/softball and T-ball season?
  • All program offerings have been canceled. Refunds will be issued for any program registrations in full by April 30th.  

Will Martial Arts be canceled?
  • Pro-rated refunds will be issued for March by April 30th. The May season is canceled and refunds have been processed.

  • Classes are expected to resume in July according to the summer schedule. 

Is Gymnastics running this summer?
  • ​Gymnastics class registration through the West Chicago Park District is closed for the summer. We have a cooperative agreement with the Carol Stream Park District, they may be running summer classes; please contact them for additional details. 

Fitness Programs

​ Are fitness classes still taking place?
  • Fitness classes are scheduled to resume on July 1st. ​

Keppler Academy

 

Will the End of the Year Celebration and Graduation still take place?
  • At this time we are considering a celebration prior to the start of the next school year and once more information on gathering limits is available. 

 

How will I be compensated for days canceled in March?
  • You will receive a refund equal to the number of days missed. 

Will I still be billed for April and May?
  • April and May EFTS will not be billed since Keppler will not be in session.

Summer Camps

Will you be offering Summer Camp this year?
  • May and June camp dates are canceled due to the extended shelter in place order.  All participants will be refunded in full for those dates.

  • We are monitoring the situation and are currently taking registration for sessions 7-14.

  • Staff is working on a contingency plan to revamp the summer camp program to adjust to the new guidelines.

  • Details regarding July camp dates will be available as information evolves. 

  • Staff will contact registered participants with any changes. 

Senior Programs

What Senior Programs will be canceled?
  • All Senior programs and activities are canceled for the summer. Staff is working on programming for the fall season and will look to reschedule any canceled senior trips at that time.

Will the 80 & Over Event on Sunday, 5/3/20 be rescheduled?
  • No, this event has been canceled and will not be rescheduled.

Events

 

Will there be a Summer at The Shell series?
  • All concert series have been cancelled and movie night have been cancelled. 

  • Fun Fridays for July and August will still be held and subject to social distancing guidelines.

Will Summer events be cancelled?
  • Yes all summer events have been cancelled. 

 

Will Daddy Daughter Date Night or Mom & Son Nerf Wars be moved to another date?
  • No, full refunds will be issued to participants. Themes will remain for next year's events. 

Will the Easter Egg-Stravaganza be rescheduled?
  • No, since this is a Holiday event, we will not reschedule for 2020.  All registered participants will receive a full refund.
