On Tuesday, November 6, 2012 the West Chicago Park District placed a question on the ballot asking the community for bonds to be issued in the amount of $15,500,000 for the purpose of constructing, building, furnishing and equipping a recreation center.

What's next?
At this point in time the Park District is working with the construction manager and architect to finalize the plans for the recreation center. Preparations are also being made with the City regarding the building of a new facility in West Chicago.
Upon completion of those tasks, approximately 4-5 months will be spent preparing construction documents for the bidding of the project, that work should commence toward the end of this year. Bidding would take place late spring 2013 and construction begin late summer/early fall of 2013. Barring any unforeseen issues, opening would be approximately Fall of 2014.
Tax Bill Questions...
The recent installment shows the increase from the referendum passed in November 2012. During the referendum process the estimate given to voters for a median priced home in West Chicago was $65. At the time of the referendum this was a $250,000 home. Certain variables such as updated EAV can slightly effect these calculations. The actual assessment base is determined by the County and can be affected by improvements and special districts.
The one significant point to realize is during the first year, the County assesses three payments (three six month bills), which means your tax rate is 50% higher the first year. Essentially the tax bill is front loaded to accumulate funds for June 2014. An example is if your normal bill is $100, then the first year it will be $150, and then revert to $100 until the final year, which will be $50.
