West Chicago Park District's Award Winning Mud Volleyball Tournament has been Cancelled.
A letter from the Superintendent of Recreation...
The West Chicago Park District would like to thank you for your support and interest in mud volleyball over the past 23 years. Your participation and love for the sport led to the event winning the IPRA Special Event of the Year Award in 2008, which we are very proud of.
Unfortunately, as you are all aware of, the economy has taken a turn for the worse and many people are unable to pay their property taxes. This has resulted in a sizeable decrease in revenue for the District over the last 2 years. We have been forced to make a substantial cutback in operating expenses for the upcoming year. Mud Volleyball costs around $30,000 to set-up and run, and $9,000 come in through registration fees. The Park District cannot continue to subsidize the remaining $21,000. We are sorry to say that Mud Volleyball is being cancelled.
We hope that each of you has fond memories of being stuck, eating or watching your family and friends fall face first into the mud.
Sincerely,
Jodi Krause, Superintendent of Recreation
